17 women MPs, MLA are billionaires, 28% faced criminal cases: report

According to an analysis by Pol Rights Body ADR, 17 women MPs and MLAs across the country have declared themselves billionaires, while 28 percent have declared criminal cases against them.

17 billionaire MPs and MLAs include six out of 75 women MPs in the Lok Sabha, three out of 37 in Rajya Sabha and eight out of 400 women from state and union constituencies.

Based on the affidavits presented by 513 current women MPs and MLAs 512, the report stated that 143 – or 28 percent – has declared criminal cases against themselves.

It includes 24 (32 percent) out of 75 Lok Sabha women MPs, out of 37 Rajya Sabha women MPs and 109 out of 400 female MLAs, 109 (27 percent) (all state assemblies /center areas) have analyzed that they have declared criminal cases against themselves.

The report said that 78 women MPs (15 percent) are facing serious criminal allegations, such as murder and even attempted murder.

It consists of 14 (19 percent) out of 75 Lok Sabha women MPs, out of 37 Rajya Sabha women MPs and 57 out of 400 women MLAs, 57 (14 percent) (all state assemblies /center areas) have analyzed that they have announced serious criminal cases against themselves.

Some states show a particularly high ratio of women MPs with criminal records.

According to the report, two out of 3 women MPs/MLAs from Goa (67 percent), 8 out of 12 women MPs/MLAs from Telangana, 14 out of 24 women MPs/MLAs from Andhra Pradesh, 14 out of 14, 7 out of 14 women (50 percent). (43 per cent) 35 women MPs/MLAs from Bihar have declared criminal cases against themselves in their self-showing letters.

The report further states that out of 12 women MPs/MLAs from Telangana, 9 out of 24 women MPs/Mlas from Andhra Pradesh, 9 out of 3 women MPs/Mlas from Goa, 1 (33 percent), 9 (26 percent) to 35 women/molas/kils/prices (21 percent) (21 percent) (21 percent) of women MPs/Legislators 3 from Punjab MPs/Legislatures. Out of MPs/MLAs, 3 (21 percent) have declared serious criminal cases against themselves in their self-deprived affidavits.

Party-wise, BJP has the highest number of women MPs in total (217), of which 23 percent are criminal cases and 11 percent are serious allegations. The Congress has a high ratio, in which 34 percent of the 83 female MLAs are facing criminal cases and 20 percent are facing serious allegations.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) shows 65 percent of its 20 female MPs with criminal cases, and 45 percent with serious people.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) holds 69 percent of its 13 female MLAs with criminal cases and 31 percent with serious allegations.

In terms of financial background, all 512 female MPs and MLAs have a total declared assets of Rs 10,417 crore, on an average, Rs 20.34 crore per legalist, Democratic Reforms and National Election Watch (New) said.

Andhra Pradesh has the highest number of 24 -year -old female MLAs, who declared an average assets of Rs 74.22 crore.

This is followed by Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Duu closely, where the only female legalist has assets of Rs 71.44 crore, and Haryana, where 15 female MLAs have average of Rs 63.72 crore.

The ADR said that Assam, Mizoram and Manipur are at the bottom of the list, these states have assets worth Rs 2.18 crore, Rs 2.20 crore and Rs 2.84 crore respectively with women MPs.

The report also stated in the educational qualification of women MPs, showing that majority – 71 percent – are graduates or have high degrees.

About 24 percent has studied between classes 5 and 12, while 12 women MLAs are diploma holders. One and 12 have identified themselves as literate.

In terms of age distribution, most of the female MPs and MLAs (64 percent) sitting are between 41 and 60 years of age, while 22 percent of the youth category falls by 25 to 40 years.

The remaining 14 percent are between 61 and 80 years of age and the average age of female MLAs is 49 years, which is below the overall average age of members in Lok Sabha (55.6 years) and Rajya Sabha (63 years), but the national average is more than 27.8 years old, the report states.

The 18th Lok Sabha has 74 women MPs (13.6 percent), which is less than 78 women MPs in the 17th Lok Sabha (14.4 percent). The BJP has the highest number of female MPs, with 31 members, followed by 13 women MPs and 11 women MPs with TMC.

Kriti Devi Debberman (BJP) from Tripura Eastern Constituency in Tripura has won with the highest vote share in her constituency, while Bangalore North Constitution in Karnataka has won with the highest number of votes, IE 9,86,049.

There are female MPs in 22 state and central regions in the 18th Lok Sabha. The only large state without a female MP is Kerala.

The high part of women candidates won elections compared to male candidates. Out of 800, 74 women candidates won the election (9.3 percent). While between 7554 male candidates, 469 selected (6.2 percent).

West Bengal has a maximum number of women MPs 11, followed by Uttar Pradesh 7, Maharashtra 7 and Madhya Pradesh 6.
