32 airports closed for civil flights by May 15: Aviation regulator

According to the Civil Aviation Regulatory, thirty -two airports have been closed in northern and western parts of the country including Srinagar and Amritsar for civil flight operations till May 15.

The decision announced in early Saturday comes in the wake of military conflict between India and Pakistan, which continued without stopping on 7 May of India’s terror camps and post -border areas of Pakistan.

Airport Authority of India (AAI) and relevant aviation officials have issued a series of notice to Airmen (NOTAMS), announcing the temporary closure of 32 airports in northern and western India for all civil flight operations.

The DGCA said in a release, “Closure” will be effective from May 9, 2025, May 14, 2025 (which matches 0529 IST on 15 May 2025).

The airports include Adhampur, Ambala, Amritsar, Awantipur, Bathinda, Bhuj, Bikaner, Chandigarh, Halwara, Hindon, and Jammu.

The other airports are Jaisalmer, Jamnagar, Jodhpur, Kandla, Kangra (Gaggal), Keshod, Kishungarh, Kullu Manali (Bhantar), and Leh, which are according to the diureate production.

Ludhina, Mundra, Nalia, Pathankot, Pathanla, Pard, Rajarar, Sarsawa, Shimla, Srinagar, Isagar, North the Day are playing with a Westports.

Earlier, by May 10, at least 24 airports were ordered to be closed for civil flight operations.

Meanwhile, AAI has increased the temporary shutdown of 25 sections of the Air Traffic Services (ATS) routes within the Delhi and Mumbai Flight Information Areas (FIR) due to “operating reasons”. “25 route segment will be unavailable from ground level to unlimited height on 14 May 2025 from 2359 UTC (which matches 0529 IST on 15 May 2025),” said DGCA.

Due to the closure of these sections, the regulator has advised Airlines and flight operators to plan alternative routes.

Temporary closures are being managed in coordination with relevant ATC units to ensure safety and reduce disruption.

On 30 April, India on 22 April closed its airspace for Pakistan Airlines as part of the anti -retaliation measures in view of the Pahgam terror attack, killing 26 people.

On 24 April, Pakistan shut down its airspace for the Indian carrier.

In a post on X on Friday, Air India said that due to continuing many airports in India, its flights and Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Bhuj, Jamnagar and Rajkot were being canceled by 5.29 am on May 15.

In a post on X, IndiGo said that all flights from 10 destinations and 10 destinations would be canceled by May 15.
