80 years old in Madhya Pradesh killed 8 after breathing toxic gas


Bhopal:

A regular -well cleaning activity turned into a disaster in Kondawat village in Madhya Pradesh, when eight people died after toxic gas.

The incident took place on Thursday when the rural Gangaur Festival was preparing for the well for immersion as part of the Gangaur Festival ceremony.

Five villagers initially landed in a 150 -year -old private well to remove the accumulated mud.

However, they soon drowned in marshy remains. Struggling them, three more villagers ran to help, but also got away from toxic gases and got trapped.

A rescue operation by the district administration, police and SDRF teams lasted for four hours. One by one, all eight bodies were recovered from the well.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed condolences and announced a pre -Rs 4 lakh Gratia for the families of those who died.

He also assured a thorough investigation into the incident.

The villagers, devastated by the loss, decided to seal the well to prevent future incidents. The district administration has ordered an inquiry, with preliminary conclusions that toxic gases in the well led to suffocation and drowning.
