Imphal/Churarachandpur:

A notification states that curfew has been imposed in some parts of Churachandpur district of Manipur due to tension on community flags in the “disputed area” between two villages between different tribes.

Tensions broke out between Zomi and HMAR tribes on Tuesday after the community flags were raised in the “disputed area” between V Munhoh and Rengkai villages in Churachandpur sub-division.

Churachandpur District Magistrate Dharun Kumar imposed curfew in two attempts and imposed curfew in Andire Kangwai, Samulamalan and Sagikot sub-division in the district.

The notification states that curfew will be reduced from 6 am to 5 pm in the remaining areas of Charachandpur.

The notification said that the rest would later be reviewed and notified based on the assessment of law and order status.

Village officials of Rengkai and V Munhoh held a meeting in the presence of Churachandpur Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police, and asked people to maintain peace and spread rumors on social media.

Officials said the meeting between the two villages was a disposal issue and not a communal, and it would be resolved by two village officials.

One person was killed and many others were injured in clashes between Zomi and on March 18, HMAR’s attempt in Charachandpur was taken down by a man to take a zomi flag down and throw it on the ground.
