In the bid for forced recovery, masked shooter fire in orphanage in Imphal, Manipur

Two people in the mask opened fire on Wednesday morning at an orphanage in Imphal West District in Manipur. A CCTV camera installed at the gate of the children’s house captured the attack.

The sound of bullets caused panic between the building staff and the residents. Police said the attack on the orphanage at Sagolband Meeno Leirak took place at 1.40 pm.

CCTV showed that one of the two masked people removed at least eight rounds from a handgun. The shooter took a crowning position, pointed to the gun at an opening below the gate, and pulled the trigger.

Police said no one was injured. The attack can be linked to the threats of forced recovery, said that there was an increase in forced recovery in Manipur, the mete-kuki ethnic clashes were broken about two years ago.

Some 30 boys live in an orphanage operated by the United Social Development Association under the Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) of the State Social Welfare Department.

Police said a case has been registered and investigation is on. A large number of residents staged a sit-in protest against the firing incident.

“It is really unfortunate that the firing was done at the children’s house. The reason for the firing is not known. We appeal that we do not allow such incidents to happen again. There are many orphans in the house. If there is any disappointment from any side, please tell us instead of being engaged in such violent acts,” Email tells us that email is told.

Grenade left at the doctor’s house

Police said that unidentified people, Director of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal, Dr. Gurumayam left a hand grenade at Sunilkumar Sharma’s house.

His family members found hand grenade at 8.30 pm on Wednesday and informed the police, who came with the bomb settlement squad. He took a hand grenade for safe settlement.

In recent times in Manipur, several forced recovery has been done by groups of armed people, especially by groups of armed people in urban areas like Imphal City and District Headquarters in Charachandpur and Kangpokpi, sources told NDTV in October 2024 that they are taking advantage of the Manipur crisis to connect these groups.

Distributors of essential consumer goods said that the NDTV highway forcibly recovery is still going on.
