Mayawati’s niece accused of dowry harassment, husband between 7 charges: police

In a case filed by the niece of BSP chief Mayawati, an FIR was lodged against the chairman of the Hapur Municipal Council and six members from her family were said on Thursday after the court directed by the court on Thursday on charges of domestic violence, dowry harassment and sexual harassment.

Rajiv Sharma, a lawyer representing the complainant, said that the woman married Vishal, son of Pushpa Devi, President of Hapur Municipal Council on November 9, 2023.

“Since marriage, the accused family allegedly used his political clot to demand party tickets, a flat as a flat of Rs 50 lakh in cash and dowry,” Rajiv Sharma said.

The complainant further alleged that her husband used steroids for the bodybuilding, which made him medical for a conjugated life.

He said that repeated arguments were followed, and on February 17, 2025, his father-in-law and brother-in-law allegedly tried to sexually harass him.

Subsequently, she returned to her parents’ home, said the lawyer. Despite registering a complaint with the police, no action was taken in the beginning, so she reached the court.

“On the instructions of Chief Judicial Magistrate Dr. Brahmapal Singh (on 9 April), an FIR was lodged in Hapur Nagar Kotwe on 10 April,” the show Munish Pratap Singh said. He confirmed that further investigation is going on and appropriate action will be taken.

The nominated accused include Pushpa Devi, her husband Sripal Singh and Vishal, husband and four other relatives.

The FIR alleged that the woman was mentally and physically harassed by her husband, in -laws and other family members who demanded Rs 50 lakh cash and a flat in Ghaziabad.

According to the complaint, when the woman faced her in-laws about her husband’s alleged medical condition, her mother-in-law and sister-in-law allegedly suggested that her brother-in-law is a child with Bhupendra alias Monu.

It is further alleged in the complaint that on the night of 17 February, his father -in -law and brother -in -law attempted to sexually harass him.

“Despite raising an alarm, they pulled her back and threatened to destroy her and her family’s reputation, if their dowry demand was not met,” he said.

The victim claimed that due to the political influence of his in -laws, his complaints were initially ignored.

The complainant said that she sent a registered complaint to the Superintendent of Police on March 21, but no response was received, after which she went to court on 24 March.

Police said that the matter is being taken seriously and all aspects of the allegations will be thoroughly investigated.
