The BJP government in Delhi will come up with a new “silly” excise policy, adopting the best practices of other states to promote revenue, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has said.
In an interview with PTI, he said that the policy would be transparent and will be sewn to ensure that it does not create any problem in the society.
The BJP came to power in Delhi in February this year, which ignored the Aam Aadmi Party. The product policy introduced by the previous AAP government was one of the major pollutions for the BJP for the BJP in 2021-22. The policy was abolished after the allegations were revealed.
During her interview with PTI on Thursday, Ms. Gupta said, “We will bring a new, silly policy that is transparent and generates revenue for the government.” He said that the policy will be such that it does not cause any problem to people and society on a large scale. “In some states, excise duty policies are correcting. We will follow the policies of these best excise duty of different states.”
The AAP changed the old productive policy in November 2021, implemented the new policy (2021–22), which aims to improve liquor trade in Delhi. However, the policy fell victim to irregularities and allegations of corruption.
In July 2022, the CBI inquiry was recommended by LT Governor VK Saxena to see allegations of violations of irregularities and rules in the construction and implementation of the policy, after which the AAP government abolished it.
Under the policy, private players were allowed to operate wholesale and retail liquor operations. Alcohol peels were handed over to private companies and the government left the business.
Finally, on August 31, 2022, the policy was abolished with close doors closure of private liquor shops.
The old policy, under which the sale of wholesale and retail liquor was re -implemented by the Delhi government and it continues.
Currently, there are about 700 liquor shops operated by four corporations of the government in Delhi.
The Chief Minister of Delhi held a review meeting with senior officials of the Excise Department on Wednesday, in which the construction of the new policy was discussed.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister’s Office said that the government is committed to a “transparent and effective” excise policy.
