Samsung brings a UI 8 update fast using Google’s trunk-based growth model: Report

Samsung recently launched the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and Galaxy Z Flip 7 Fe on this month, and they are the first Android smartphones to launch the latest version of Google’s operating system with Android 16. To speed up the process of developing Android, Google switchs to the more stable and resource efficient trunk-based growth models earlier this year, and Samsung allegedly followed the suit. This should enable the South Korean company to be able to offer rapid updates in future, after prolonged delay in rolling a UI7 (Android 15) software updates.

How to use Google and Samsung trunk stable growth models

The Android Authority states that the trunk is stable for Android development used by Google. On the company’s internal Android branchWhile the company manufactures in support for various characteristics, they are hidden behind the feature flags that can be togel or enabled when the software is released.

The trunk stable is said to be much faster than the old branch-based growth models used by Google. Earlier, Google’s engineers will continue to combine facilities during the development process and after completing these changes will merge these changes with the main Android branch.

This process results in many bugs and issues that would take longer to fix. This will also delay in the development process, and the quality of the operating system will decline while the issues were resolved. Meanwhile, the trunk-based model provides more stability and features can be enabled after the preparation.

Samsung switched to the similar development model of Google, developed one of its UI skin through a single development branch, Samsung Electronics EVP Sally Hysson Jong was allegedly revealed during a roundateable earlier this month. The company is aiming to release a UI software update around the same time as Google with future Android updates.

While Samsung rolled out its Android 14-based UI 6 update in 2023 quickly, the following version delayed several months, and originally began for months worthy smartphones after being unveiled. It is not clear that this delay affected Samsung’s decision that the decision by Google to launch Android 16 in June, the decision to switch to the more efficient (and stable) growth models used by Google months ahead of its general program.
