Apple and Corning on Wednesday announced the expansion of their partnership. Cupertino-based tech veterans will invest an additional $ 2.5 billion (about Rs 21,900 crore) to make cupertino-based tech giants to create cover glass for all iPhone and Apple Watch models at Corning’s Harodesburg plant in Kentki. Companies claimed that for the first time, all cover glasses for these devices sold worldwide will soon be built in the US. The move will also result in an enlarged workforce. They will also set up an innovation center at the plant.

According to the company, for the first time, the cover glass will be created for all the iPhone and Apple Watch models sold worldwide. Currently, Apple’s ceramic shield glass is built in the same plant.
Corning’s Harodesburg plant has been claimed to be the world’s largest and most advanced smartphone glass production line, and will now be completely dedicated to Apple. This step is asked to promote the workforce of Corning in Kentki up to 50 percent. Apple and Corning will also open an innovation center at the plant to develop advanced material for future apple products and next-gene manufacturing.
As part of the move, Apple will invest $ 2.5 billion (about Rs 21,900 crore), which is a part of its plan to invest $ 600 billion (about Rs 52,63,508 crore) in the US over the next four years. The company did not specify whether all the glass covers for the iPhone 17 series handsets would be built at the Herodsburg plant of Corning.
Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 series later this year, which is expected to include the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and the iPhone 17 Pro Max models. The company can leave the plus variant and replace it with a new air model, which is just a rumor of being 5.5 mm thick, making it the thinnest iPhone yet.
