New Delhi:

Saying this as a state of regret, the Supreme Court on Monday wrapped the Delhi government late in premature release of prisoners.

A bench of Justice Abhay S Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan also censored the conviction board (SRB) to reject premature release prayers.

The bench said, “The situation of cases remains that the Delhi government is dealing with the issue of prisoners ahead of time. A lot can be said about it.”

The apex court, despite the assurance of the Delhi government, saw that nothing was done and was called for a deep investigation into the way in which the issue of premature release was being handled.

The apex court had earlier slammed the Delhi government on a delay in fixing a petition for exemption by 114 convicts, including a Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist, who was convicted for conspiring to wage war against the country and was honored with life imprisonment.

The apex court had cast states to dismiss the demonetisation petition of the culprits of mechanically life, who have served a jail sentence of more than 14 years.
