New Delhi:
Google will no longer give power to the operating system on Android TV in India as a default nor will the default app store on such smart TVs. It comes after an important decision passed by the competition regulator of India.
The competition Watchdog pulled Google’s original firm alphabet for its “anti -competitive practices” in the Smart TV segment in India and accused them of trying to make “monopoly” in the region.
India of India or CCI stated that India is one of the largest global markets in Google and is one of the related applications to “misuse its major status” under its operating system, Google Play Store, and its television app distribution agreement.
Google has gone from smart TV?
The case against Google and the alphabet was filed by two Indian antitrust lawyers, after which the CCI ordered an inquiry into the case. Conclusions suggested that global technology is engaged in veteran processes that can be considered as an alternative operating system or even making obstacles for people modified for Android Smart TV.
Based on the decision of the competition Watchdog, Google agreed to register a disposal application, in which it proposed a standalone license for his play store and carried out services instead of bundling services for Android Smart TV in India.
According to the new agreement, Google’s Play Store and Play Services, which were being provided for pre-installation, will now include a fee. Google has also been asked to send a letter to all its partners who sell Android TV in India, saying that they are no longer obliged to use Google’s Android OS and are free to use any open-sard operating system of their choice.
What does it mean to consumers
Consumers who like Google’s Android OS and Play Store will now have to check with retailers and brands to know which TVs have installed them and which not, because other operating systems and app store will now be allowed to partner with smart TV manufacturers.
Not all applications are currently available at all applications stores. Google Play and Amazon App Store provide a wide range of applications for TV users. Many major app developers also mainly complete Apple, Google and Amazon stores, and therefore some are not available on others who provide similar services.
Apple’s iOS, Google’s Android and Amazon’s fire OS is also preferred for their data security measures and its spontaneous graphical user interfaces. Therefore, TV buyers will now have to do their research about the operating system and app store before purchasing television.
Currently, brands such as Hisense, Sony, Panasonic, Philips, Sharp, Motorola, Nokia, Toshiba, and TCL uses Google’s Android OS and Play Store Services, which are pre -installing.
Options for TV manufacturers and Android TV partners
Apart from choosing another operating system, Android TV Partners in India will also not be made mandatory to use any of Google Apps as default in their TVS.
Although the new agreement is mainly for smart TVs, India’s Competition Commission said that it can only be extended beyond television. It also imposed a fine of $ 2.38 million, which Google would have to pay as settlement for the case.
