8 killed in family, 6 injured and bridge fell from a vehicle in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal:

On Tuesday, at least eight members of one family were killed and six others were injured in a road accident in Damoh district of Madhya Pradesh.

The incident occurred in Nohta police station area around 10:15 am when the driver of the vehicle carrying 15 passengers lost its control near the Sunr river bridge near Simri village and fell from a bridge over a dry river.

According to police officials, the vehicle was a resident of Jabalpur district.

Among the dead were five sisters of the same family, along with a niece and a grandson.

Investigating officer Arvind Singh told IANS that six people of the vehicle died on the spot, while two children, at the age of eight and ten, died due to their injuries in Damoh district hospital.

The remaining injured passengers were treated in Damoh before being taken to Jabalpur Medical College, especially through a systematic green corridor to ensure Swift medical care.

The official said, “Post mortem examinations of the bodies have been conducted in Jabra Hospital, and the bodies have been handed over to the police,” the officer said.

Officials said the victims were returning home after visiting a local “Vaidya” for herbal medicine to treat some diseases.

However, police sources suggest that they can visit a site dedicated to a local deity, questioning the reason for the family to travel together in large numbers. The accident was part of a range of road tragedies, as three separate accidents occurred across Madhya Pradesh on Monday, claiming a total of ten lives.

On Monday, six members of a family died on the spot, and three others were injured on Jabalpur-Ressen Road.

They were coming after attending a wedding. The officials continued their investigation under the circumstances around the Damoh incident.
