S Jaishankar condemns “coward” terror attack in J&K Pahgam


New Delhi:

Minister of External Affairs K Jaishankar strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Pahgam in Jammu and Kashmir and paid condolences to those who have lost their loved ones.

In a post on X, S Jaishankar said, “Condemned the cowardly terrorist attack in Pahgam. Our views are with the families of the victims. Pray for early recovery of the injured.”

The attack that targeted tourists in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir took place earlier on Tuesday.

However, the state government has not yet issued any official statement on casualties or injuries. Tourists injured in the terrorist attack have been taken to the local hospital in Pahlagam.

After the attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephonic conversation with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and directed him to take all necessary measures in response to the incident.

PM Modi has also asked the Home Minister to visit the site of attack in Anantnag district of South Kashmir to personally assess the situation.

In a post on X, PM Modi said, “I strongly condemn the terrorist attack in Pahgam, Jammu and Kashmir. There is condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured have recovered as soon as possible. All possible assistance is being given to those who are being affected,” PM Modi said.

He said, “Those people will be brought behind this heinous act for justice … They will not be spared! Their evil agenda will never be successful. Our resolve to fight terrorism is irreversible, and it will be even stronger,” he said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also reacted to the terrorist attack on tourists in Pahgam in Jammu and Kashmir and said that criminals would have to face harsh consequences. He said that he would visit Srinagar to hold a security review meeting.

In a post on X, Amit Shah said, “Tourists suffered from terrorist attacks in Pahgam, Jammu and Kashmir. My thoughts are with the family members of the deceased. People involved in this disgusting work of terror will not be spared, and we will be overwhelmed on criminals with disturbing results.”

He said, “PM Narendra Modi gave information about the incident and held a meeting with the officials concerned through video conferencing. Soon it will leave for Srinagar to hold an immediate security review meeting with all agencies.”

Political leaders at parties strongly condemned the firing incident in Pahalgam region of South Kashmir, called peace and attack on the tourism sector of the region.
