Prime Minister Narendra Modi became one of the first leaders in the world to congratulate Mark Karney and his Liberal Party to win Canada’s parliamentary elections. This is the first gesture or acknowledgment from the Government of India towards Canada since the stressful bilateral ties left by the Justin Trudeau administration.
In his message to Mr. Carney, who is ready to continue as the Prime Minister of Canada, PM Modi wrote that he is ready to work with the new Canadian leader. He said that India and Canada are “bound by shared democratic values, a firm commitment to the rule of law, and a firm commitment to people’s relationship with lively people”, saying that they can “strengthen our partnership and unlock more opportunities for our people.”
