Congress President Mallikrajun Kharge on Wednesday welcomed the Center’s decision to include caste-based data in the upcoming National Census, but insisted that only one announcement is not enough to start the practice without any effort.
Talking to NDTV, Mr. Kharge, who is the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, said: “This is a good decision. For this decision, we have been waiting for a long time. I wrote a letter to remind him (government) before and recently …” I wrote a letter to remind him (government). “

The final nationwide census was completed in 2011 and the next Decadal began in April 1, 2020, but the Kovid epidemic delayed.
Addressing the first reporters during the day, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that caste census will empower the marginalized sections and help them to become self -sufficient. “It shows that our government is committed to the values and interests of our society and the country, such as in the past when our government introduced 10 percent reservation for the economically weaker sections of the society without causing tension in any part of the society,” he said.
He also said that census comes under the purview of the center, but in a clear context of some states – Karnataka, Telangana and Bihar – has calculated caste in the name of surveys for “political reasons”.
Castes were not calculated in all census after independence – this is another major example of the double standards and hypocrisy of the Congress party. The Congress only did showy politics on the work that was postponed for decades.
