His family said on Thursday that veteran Congress leader and former Union Minister Girija Vyas, who suffered a burnt injuries on 31 March while performing Aarti at his home. She was 79 years old.
Vyas’s brother Gopal Sharma said that he succumbed to burning injuries at Ahmedabad Hospital on Thursday evening.
Congress leaders were demonstrating Aarti, during which his dupatta caught fire from a burning lamp and faced serious burning injuries. He was taken to a private hospital in Udaipur, where he was sent to Ahmedabad.
Gopal Sharma said that the funeral of Girija Vyas will be performed in Udaipur on Friday.
Vyas was a prominent Congress leader who served as a minister in both state and central governments. She was also the PCC chief.
She also worked as the chairman of the National Commission for Women.
