Pakistan thought that they had benefits but

Thiruvananthapuram:

Former diplomat, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who served in the United Nations, has pointed to the “tragic reality” of the Security Council consultation after his members meeting last night to discuss the Indo-Pakistan tension and Pahalgam terror attack.

Only the member countries were present in a closed-door meeting, due to which it is not really known what was transparented in the talks. However, reports show that UNSC members raised difficult questions to Pakistan.

Speaking to his knowledge, Mr. Tharoor said that how UNSC works, said that the Security Council will not make any resolution against India or Pakistan.

“I am confident that the council will not pass a proposal criticizing Pakistan because China will veto it, (and) They will not pass a resolution by criticizing us because many countries will object to it and perhaps it will veto it. It is going to call more for peace and concern about peace in a common type of language.”

He said that he does not expect anything from the council through formal meetings or informal advisors, which will directly affect either of the two countries.

He said, “This is a sad reality in the way these things work.”

The April 22 massacre of 26 civilians in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir is one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in decades, which condemned widely. Reports suggest that the members of the council grilled Islamabad and called for accountability when he was involved in a Pakistan-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Tabiba attack.

Pakistan is one of the 10 non-established members of the Security Council and was present in the meeting, while India was not.

“In these circumstances, Pakistan must have thought that they had an advantage, but the feeling we are getting is that many delegations asked very difficult questions, and especially about their early claims of Lashkar-e-Taiba and responsibility,” said Mr. Tharoor.

On the basis of what is being told, he said that there seems to be some criticism of the terrorist attack in Pahgam, and nothing can be expected from this platform.

“The concerns that have come up to a large extent are that terrorism is extremely dangerous and it can be understood by an Indian reaction that can move forward in turn. Therefore, there was a certain wish that I can gather, what happened in Pahgam is very important than what happened in Pahgam.”

He said that bestly, the Security Council may issue an informal statement after consulting members or calling an official meeting.

“Some members can say well that, looking at Pakistan, there is a party for controversy, only the Pakistani approach to come up with an agreed situation and the Indian approach would not be correct. Therefore, some members may suggest a meeting of the state council,” the former diplomat said that he has also been a junior foreign minister.

No official statement has been issued by the Security Council or India yet about closed door talks.
