5 Bangladeshi citizens arrested for illegal infiltration in Assam

Guwahati:

At least five Bangladeshi citizens were arrested and later pushed back by security personnel in South Salmara district of Assam on charges of illegal infiltration.

Taking X in X, Chief Minister Sarma wrote: “With an unrelated stance on illegal infiltration, @ssalmarapolice and @BSF_India caught 5 Bangladeshi citizens while trying for illegal admission and pushed them back to the border.”

He also said that the Assam Police takes 24×7 vigilance to secure international borders.

Earlier, the Chief Minister said: “We have placed security forces on a high warning on the international border after unrest in Bangladesh to investigate the infiltration. The police have detected a good number of illegal immigrants on a daily basis along the international border; however, no Hindu intruders of Bangladesh were arrested in the last five months.”

Mr. Sarma argued that the people of the Hindu community had come from Bangladesh 30 or 40 years ago, and the rest are living in the neighboring country for various reasons.

“Most of the Hindu community people who wished to cross the border and come to India came here 30 or 40 years ago. The rest of the minority people in Bangladesh are living despite facing large-scale atrocities in the neighboring country. I think they have their own reasons for living there-a love for soil or patriotism towards Bangladesh, he said.”

Mr. Sarma also said that Bangladeshi infiltration increased due to the collapse of the textile industry in the neighboring country in the last few months, causing many unemployed.

He said that Bangladesh’s economy collapsed due to unrest, and most communities were affected more than the minority segment.

The Chief Minister said, “So far, we have arrested about 1,000 Bangladeshi people in the last few months. He was pushed back soon after his arrest.”

He also blamed illegal infiltration for the encouragement given by the owners of some textile industry in India.
