India and Pakistan, Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi warned traders, wholesalers and retailers on Friday against the hoarding of essential foods and said that the government had enough stocks.
In social media posts, he said, “Do not believe in promotional messages about food stocks in the country. We have enough food stocks that are more than the required norms. Do not pay attention to such messages.”

“Merchants, wholesalers, retailers or business institutions who are engaged in business of essential commodities are directed to collaborate with law enforcement agencies. Any person will be prosecuted under relevant sections of essential commodities on a person involved in hoardings or stockpilling,” said Shri Joshi.
India on Wednesday launched a deep strike within Pakistan on nine sites in Pakistan -occupied Kashmir and Pakistan, vengeance for a deadly terrorist attack in Pahgam two weeks ago.
Even on Thursday, Mr. Joshi urged people not to pay rumors about the need to establish essential commodities, saying that the country has more than adequate stock of all essential commodities.
“In some parts of the country, rumors are spreading, causing people to run to gather essential foods and other daily requirements,” he said.
The minister clearly said, “We have enough stock of everything necessary across the country”.
The minister said, “Our stock is necessary, and there is no reason to flee the markets in any part of the country.”
Mr. Joshi said that there is no shortage and no one should pay any value of such rumors.
