New Delhi:
The Delhi High Court on Tuesday stopped the proceedings in a lawsuit filed against the alleged objectionable social media posts by Anjali Birla, daughter of Om Birla, an officer of the Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS).
Justice Jyoti Singh passed the decree in favor of Anjali Birla in the suit, which was filed against X Corp (formally known as Twitter), against Google and unknown individuals (John Does).
The officer sought directions to launch social media posts, who alleged that he approved the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination and became IAS officer in his first attempt due to his father’s influence.
His lawyer presented that Birla appeared for UPSC, Civil Services Examination (CSE), and was selected in the 2019 Integrated Reserve List. He joined the Indian Railways as an IRPS officer.
In July, the High Court, in last year’s interim order, directed the X Corp and Google Inc. to remove the alleged objectionable social media posts against Anjali Birla.
It also stopped unknown parties from re -posting, circulating, communicating, tweeting, tweeting, tweeting, tweeting, tweeting, tweeting, rewriting the alleged defamation material mentioned in its defamation suit.
During the hearing on Tuesday, the court was informed by a lawyer for X that 12 of the 16 posts were removed by the promoters, while access to the remaining four posts was blocked by the social media platform to follow the interim order.
The court directed the X to remove the remaining four social media posts and said that if Anjali Birla brings to any other similar positions in her notice, she should also be removed by social media platforms.
The court had earlier said that the social media post plaintiff had complained that it was not made after verification.
It was noted in 2024, “The plaintiff was appointed in IRPS in 2021. The purpose of posting social media posts in 2024 and the language in which they have been posted does not seem to be Bonafide,” it was noted in 2024.
Anjali Birla’s lawyer had argued that social media tweets were slander and wrong and only to tarnish the prestige of the plaintiff and could not be allowed to be in vogue.
He said that similar allegations were reported against him in 2021, but on the officer’s complaint, several media houses were investigated and the dispute died later.
“Three years later, this social media campaign has resumed which not only discredit him, but also his family, including his father, who is a political person and holds a constitutional position.
“I became an officer in 2021, but now suddenly these things have come out again due to NEET and UPSC exam controversies. Social media posts feel as if we are all part of this. My (plaintiff) private pictures are being posted online, saying that I am a model, saying that I have filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime Department.
