Nine killed in electric attacks in Odisha, meteorological issues vigilance

Officials said at least nine people, including six women, were killed and some other people were injured in separate incidents of electrical attacks in Odisha on Friday amid thunderstorms in the state.

When three people died in Koraaput district, two died in two -two Jajpur and Ganjam districts, and in each of the one -one Dhankal and Gajapati districts, he said.

Three women lost their lives and an elderly man was seriously injured in an electricity strike in Paridiguda village of Laxmipur police station in Koraaput district on Friday afternoon.

According to sources, the victims, who were members of the same family, took shelter in a temporary hut while working in the fields, as heavy rains and strong winds were swept away in the area. A police officer said that one electricity hit the hut, three women died on the spot.

The victims have been identified as Bruhi Mandlinga (60), their granddaughter Kasa Mandinga (18), and Ambika Kashi (35) of Kumbarguda village. He said that Bruhi and Kas Mandling were residents of Paridigud.

Another 65 -year -old man, identified as Hung Mandinga, was faced with serious injuries and was taken to the Laxmipur Community Health Center, where he is currently undergoing treatment, the official said.

Officials of the District Emergency Office said that according to the current government guidelines, financial assistance will be provided to the bereaved families.

In Jajpur district, two boys were killed in electrical attacks, as Norvester Rain saw the Dharmasala region. He said that the victims have been identified as Taare Hembram (15) and Tukulu Chatar (12) from Burusahi village of Jenpur police station.

According to the villagers, the pair stood on the verandah of a Kukka House, as thunder was caught in the area in the evening. He died on the spot after lightning during the rains.

Police sent the bodies to a hospital for bodies. The official said that a case of an unnatural death has been registered in connection with the incident and further investigation is going on.

In Ganjam district, an Class 7 student, who was identified as Om Prakash Pradhan, was killed by lightning in Barda village of Kabirinagar tehsil.

A 23 -year -old woman died in the same incident, collecting mangoes from a garden in Belguntha region.

In Dhankanal, a woman, known as Surushi Bishwal (40), was killed in Kusumundia village under Dashipur Panchayat.

A woman died after hitting the bricks from a tractor trailer in Gajapati’s Mohana area.

The IMD had earlier issued a ‘red warning’ for thunderstorms, which reaches the speed of hail and gusti air at 60 to 70 kmph, including Koraaput, Cuttack, Khurda, Nigarh, Jajpur, Balasore and Ganjam in many districts.
