Mumbai:
Mumbai has faced several terrorist attacks, and many security experts have stated that some of these attacks can be dealt with better or even prevented if intelligence input was noted, processed, and action was taken. The Mumbai Police is now starting a new place, with a Joint Commissioner of Joint, especially intelligence. Dr, an IPS officer of 2006 batch. Aarti Singh will take over as the first Joint Commissioner of Joint Commissioner of Mumbai (Intelligence) today.
This is the sixth post of a joint commissioner in the Mumbai Police organizational structure, already a joint commissioner of police to handle law and order, crime, administration, economic crimes and traffic.
Officials said that the Police Commissioner (Intelligence) would report to the Commissioner of Police and would be responsible for the supervision of the intelligence assembly, including monitoring the sleeper cells. The Mumbai Police already has a special branch that monitors every development in the city, collects intelligence inputs as well as keeps an eye on the activities of sleeper cells and (terror) sympathizers.
An official said, “Under the new mechanism, the Joint Commissioner of the Special Branch will report directly to the Commissioner and also coordinate with the Joint Commissioner (Law and Order).
Earlier, Additional Commissioner (Special Branch), who gathered intelligence information, informed the Joint Commissioner (Law and Order). Now, the Additional Commissioner (Special Branch) will report to the Joint Commissioner (Intelligence).
In order to create the post, the Home Department of Maharashtra said that Mumbai is the financial capital of the country, with many important establishments that need to be protected, and a large number of VIPs who have high threat perception.
The new post will mainly remove hurdles in real -time intelligence processing and create a clear channel of actionable intelligence for the Mumbai Police, saying.
Often going to the city with illegal intruders, police hope that the time interval will be addressed in processing intelligence information.
The latest development came earlier this month after the transfer and posting of top officials after the appointment of planning as Deven Bharti’s Police Commissioner for Mumbai city. Till now, the Mumbai Police did not have any specific intelligence unit, and the special branch of the Mumbai Police was largely responsible for intelligence information. Each department and its officials had a network of informers, but in the era of new crimes and goals, the need for a specific intelligence unit was felt within the Mumbai Police, collecting a structured intelligence information and lack of processing unit.
