CJI Br Gavai Maharashtra named Chief Justice “Permanent Guest” Protocol

The Maharashtra government has issued a protocol guidelines to ensure that the Chief Justice of India’s Mumbai and other parts of the state to follow the official decoration.

According to the guidelines, CJI Br Gavai is now officially nominated as a permanent state guest in Maharashtra, said the state government released on Tuesday.

While the guidelines cited the state’s guest rules, the state government was embarrassed on Sunday when CJI Gavai expressed displeasure over the absence of the state’s Chief Secretary, DGP or Mumbai Police Commissioner, who to get them to receive them during the state’s first visit to the top judicial post.

CJI Gawai, who took oath of the new office on 14 May, was in Mumbai for a felicitation program.

On Monday, State Cabinet Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said that he had apologized to CJI Gavai on behalf of the state government on ‘protocol omission’.

According to Maharashtra State Guest Rules, 2004, it is believed that reception and farewell at the airports is provided by the state protocol sub-divisions included in the list of declared state guests.

At the district level, the office of the District Collector ensures equal arrangements through the protocol officials.

Accordingly, the Chief Justice of India will be entitled to all protocol-related facilities as per the state’s guest rules, 2004, which includes housing, vehicle arrangements and security across the state during the journey.

During the visit of the Chief Justice to Mumbai, the Chief Secretary or his senior representative, the Director General of Police or a senior representative, and for the visit to other districts, the concerned District Collector and Commissioner/Superintendent of Police or his senior representatives are instructed to welcome dignity.

As per the circular date of the General Administration Department, March 7, 2022, the department concerned for the purpose of the dignitaries will have to appoint a connectivity officer to facilitate coordination and reception.

Accordingly, during the visit to the Ministry of Maharashtra, Mumbai, Law and Judicial Department, will appoint a Governor-A Gazette Officer. For visits to other districts, the concerned district courts, in coordination with the District Collector, will appoint such officers.

The General Administration Department has directed all the concerned officials to strictly implement these guidelines.
