New Delhi:
The central government today took strict action, which was deploying Central Industrial Security Forces to protect the Bhakra Dam to increase the Punjab-Hyana water dispute. The Union Home Ministry has issued new orders, asking the CISF to take charge of Bhakra Dam.
An amount of Rs 8.5 crore has been allocated and the government has approved 296 CISF personnel.
Instructions have been given to arrange their housing and communication.
Recently, the Punjab government deployed a police force in the dam and when the BBMB president went to release water, he was taken hostage.
A decision has been taken to release additional water to Haryana between the two states.
Punjab refused to follow and vowed not to leave a single drop of water from its part, with a proposal in the state assembly.
The state later captured the Nangal dam, in which the BJP government tried to cut its water supply to Haryana.
Punjab has now deployed additional police personnel in the dam.
