A look at the history of India-Pakistan armed struggle, between Operation Sindoor

New Delhi:

In retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack, India on Wednesday launched a coordinated missile strike on nine terrorist goals in Pakistan and Pakistan -occupied Kashmir (POK). Among the goals were Jaish-e-Mohammed Garh of Bahawalpur and Murid of Lashkar-e-Tabiba.

Two weeks after the killing of 26 civilians in Pahgam in Jammu and Kashmir, multi-shared military action was taken under ‘Operation Sindoor’. India blamed Pakistan for a terrorist attack and has accused Islamabad of supporting citizens in Kashmir on 22 April of supporting the deadliest terrorist operation in the years.

Name for action – Operation Sindoor – References to Lal Varmilian that many Indian women wear to indicate their married status. In the Pahalgam terror attack, many women’s husbands were killed in front of them, including an Indian Naval Officer.

India’s latest action connects a long list of military conflicts among the nuclear-head neighbors. There is a look at some major clashes here:

1947: Conflict after Pakistan’s invasion of Kashmir

After the end of British rule on August 15, 1947, the Indian sub-continent was divided into India and Pakistan. Partition highlighted the bloodshed, which possibly killed thousands of people and displaced 15 million others.

At the time of Partition, Hari Singh, the ruler of Kashmir, hesitated to select between joining India or Pakistan as he detected options for the remaining independent.

However, he finally opted to join India after the armed tribals of Pakistan with Pakistan’s Army, an attack, which led to the first armed struggle between India and Pakistan over Kashmir.

Until the United Nations intervened between the two neighbors in 1949 to establish a 770 km (478-mile) ceasefire line in 1949, there was a fight for months.

1965: War on Kashmir

The Pakistani Army crossed India in August 1965, demanding control of Kashmir again. In response, India took a military avatar across the border. The battle took place in the fight, including both the land and the Air Force, and the biggest tank fight in history took place. Thousands were killed during the war before a ceasefire in September.

1971: War on Bangladesh

In 1971, Pakistan deployed soldiers to suppress an independence movement, now Bangladesh, which was controlled as East Pakistan since 1947. Indian forces supported Mukti Bahni (freedom fighters) to create friends Bahini (“Army of Friends Nations”) to prevent a massacre in the erstwhile East Pakistan.

An estimated three million people were killed in a nine -month struggle, the creation of an independent nation Bangladesh.

1999: Kargil War

Pakistani paramilitary forces infiltrated Indian territory in Kargil district of Ladakh, leading to the Kargil War, also known as Kargil Conflict or Operation Vijay. Pakistan -backed militants confiscated Indian military positions in icy heights of Indian forces, Indian forces retaliated. The struggle continued with the Line of Control (LOC) from May to July 1999 before it concluded with a clear victory for India, as Indian forces successfully evicted Pakistani soldiers and reconstructed the region. Both sides had hundreds of casualties in the war.

2016: Uri attack

On 18 September 2016, four Jaish-e-Mohammed militants of Pakistan targeted an Indian Army Brigade headquarters near Uri city in Indian Jammu and Kashmir, killing 19 soldiers, injuring many others. In response, India operated a surgical strike at several terrorist launchpads in Pakistan along the border.

2019: Pulwama attack

On 14 February 2019, a convoy of vehicles carrying Indian security personnel on the Jammu-Singar National Highway was attacked by a vehicle-borne suicide assault in Lathpora in Pulwama district. 40 security personnel died in a suicide attack. In response, India sent fighter jets, which carried out airstrikes on the Pakistani region to target the strike of a terrorist training camp 12 days later.

An Indian jet was shot at the Pakistani-controlled area, in which the occupied pilot was safely released in India days.
