A 19 -year -old woman was kidnapped and raped by 22 people in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh a week. Police said six of the attackers have been arrested and one is a victim for the rest.
Kishore, a resident of Lalpur region in North Varanasi, left home on March 29 to visit a friend, which he often did without any trouble. But this time she failed to return home. His family lodged a complaint with the police on 4 April.
The same day, he was apparently released at Pandeppur intersection by drugs. He somehow made his way to a friend’s place, which was nearby and was later taken home. He later revealed the details of the examination for his father, which later lodged a complaint with the police.
The alleged attacks allegedly occurred in a hookah bar, a hotel, a lodge and a guest house, which included various people. Complaint, one copy of which is with NDTV, mentions that 22 people raped her.
A case has been registered and the police is questioning the accused men. Some of the arrested people are from Hukulganj and Lallpura areas, and were taken into custody the same night. But the police are reluctant to give any details as some of them may be minors.
Chandrakant Meena, a senior local police officer, said that neither the victim nor his family had initially filed a complaint of sexual harassment. “The rape complaint was filed only on 6 April,” he told reporters.
Further investigation is on, he said.
