India implemented a series of serious measures against Pakistan in response to the terrorist attack in Pahgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, killing 26 tourists, major political figures in North Eastern India and parties called for similar action against Bangladesh, amidst concerns over infiltration and its growing negotiations with Pakistan.
For the first time, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was alert to ring the alarm bell, who last week that the authorities were alerted about the close ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh. The day later on Sunday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (MP) Nishikant Dubey called for a similar action on the eastern front.
Talking to reporters, Mr. Dubey said: “Lashkar-e-Taiba (late) is in constant contact with the interim government of Bangladesh. To prevent terrorist infiltration, there is a need to secure the borders of India and Bangladesh. In 1996 the agreement for the Ganges government for the Ganges government was wrong.”
He said: “Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is constantly saying this. West Bengal Chief Minister (Mamta Banerjee) opposed the Teesta Water Agreement. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is not in favor of Brahmaputra’s water. It will soon be …”
In Jharkhand, BJP MPs of Godda were referring to the Ganga Water Treaty signed between India and Bangladesh in 1996. His comment was also suspending the Indus Water Treaty against India’s background, signed after a terrorist attack with Pakistan in 1960.
What is Ganga water treaty?
For example, the Indus Water Treaty puts the system down between India and Pakistan to share the water of the Indus and its tributaries, the Ganges water treaty is an agreement between India and Bangladesh on the water sharing of the Ganges river.
The treaty guarantees 35,000 cusecs for Bangladesh if the flow of water is about 70,000-75,000 cubic feet per second (cusecs), and divides the water evenly if the flow falls below 70,000 cusecs.
The Treaty signed in 1996 is scheduled for renewal in 2026 after 30 years. Earlier this year, a Bangladesh team visited West Bengal for a field journey of Faraka Barrage before a discussion on the issue earlier this year.
It comes to water and often, India has its own interests, so it is due to these treaties that India was never able to make full use of river water. For India, the Hogali river system and the Faraka barrage for West Bengal is important as it feeds the tributary of the Ganges, the Hooghly River, which also serves from Kolkata and Haldia ports.
Why is Assam Chief Minister worried about Bangladesh?
On Sunday, Mr. Sarma said that India should work against Bangladesh, the way it was with Pakistan, amid concerns over across the border infiltration.
“I think India should take a difficult action against Bangladesh and I am sure these measures are under consideration by the Government of India. But these are strategic decisions, and we should not go beyond one point,” he said.
“As a chief minister, we can request, but after considering the entire security aspect by the Government of India, a decision will be taken whether you can take both Pakistan and Bangladesh at one time or do you take them one by one, it is a decision taken by the central government.
Earlier, the Chief Minister said: “We are also concerned about Hobobing between Bangladesh and Bangladesh and Pakistan recently. Therefore, we have alerted our security agencies and have asked them to maintain strict vigilance and what is going on the border should be known.”
What are BJP allies saying in the Northeast?
Tipra Motha’s leading Prideot Bikram Manikya Debberman, whose party is an ally of the ruling BJP in Tripura, said: “Bangladesh and Pakistan will try to surround India, from an western side and from an eastern side. I completely support the Government of India. A terrible incident took place in Pahlgam.
He said: “” The Government of India should also react when the same thing happens in East India because we are equally Indian, proud Indians. Bangladesh’s behavior towards India and Pakistan’s behavior should be dealt with in the same way … We want the Government of India to be equally strong with Pakistan and Bangladesh. ,
In a post on X, Mr. Debberman identified the issue of infiltration from Bangladesh to India through the Northeast Indian territory.
“Illegal Bangladeshi is entering every day! Justice and meditation from the rest of India?
Why should India be worried about Bangladesh?
