All about the bill to regulate school fees in Delhi

The Delhi government approved transparency in determining the Delhi School Education, Fee Bill 2025 on Tuesday, under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, which aims to check the arbitrary fee hike by private schools in the national capital. In a press conference on Tuesday, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Delhi’s house and Education Minister Ashish Sood said that the bill will not only regulate school fees, but everything related to school affairs in a transparent manner.

It has also been said that a three-level committee will decide to increase the fee and parents will be stakeholders in the decision.

The committee will consist of two teachers and five parents, who will be selected by the draw. Once a committee is formed, it will regulate school fees for three years.

There will be another committee at the district level. It will have 10 members, including two women and one from a SC/ST community.

Based on the 18 marks mentioned by the government, the school will decide whether the school fees should be increased or not.

“Bold and historical steps”

The Chief Minister of Delhi welcomed the move, called it “bold and historic”. He said that something like this has been done after the 1970s.

The Chief Minister said in the press conference, “The previous governments in Delhi did not make any provision to prevent the increase in fees. There was no guideline to help the private schools prevent the increase in fees.”
