Amit Shah to change the name of Delhi Road after Bodo leader Upendranath Brahma

Officials said that in an important tribute to the legacy of Bodofa Upendranath Brahma, the Delhi Corporation (MCD) of the Municipal Corporation will change the name of a section of Lala Lajpat Rai Marg in South Delhi.

A statue of Bodofa will also be unveiled at the Kailash Colony Round About.

Officials said that Bodo is known as the father of the people, Bodofa Upendranath Brahma was a visionary leader and social reformer who tried tirelessly for the rights, identity and upliftment of the Bodo community.

At a ceremony at Kailash Colony on 1 May, Union Home Minister Amit Shah formally renamed the Strech of Lala Lajpat Rai Marg Road to the name of Bodofa Upendranath Brahma Marg and unveiled the statue of Bodofa.

Assamod Boro, Chief Executive Member, Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh, Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswjit Dimery, Bodold Arkha Guwa Brahma, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Biswa Sarma and his Delhi Sakshakhana Gupta with Bodolland Territorial Council (BTC).

The named stretch is an 835-meter and 50 feet wide road located near the Kailash Colony Metro Station, which passes along the Bodoland Guest House.

The ceremony of May 1 will be organized by the Government of Assam and is a symbol of the 35th death anniversary of the prestigious Bodo leader.

Recalling Bodofa, in this regard, ABSU has decided to illuminate five million soil lights and candles on May 1 in every house and public place in Bodoland regional territory and Assam.

ABSU president Dipen Boro said, “Bodofa Upendranath Brahma dedicated his life to the creation of an inclusive society, where people could live with dignity and secure their right place.”

He said that his thoughts guide generations for peaceful changes and collective progress.

The ABSU president said that the naming of a road and the installation of his statue at the center of the national capital is a proud moment for all Bodo people.

Given that it stands as a permanent tribute to his work and ideals, he said: “It was the commitment of Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the memorandum submitted by ABSU at Parliament House on December 6, 2024, and the 57th Boda announced the naming of Apnera Nath Brahma Marg and Statue in the open session of the 57th Boda.”

Boro said that Manyata throws light on the impact of Bodofa and their efforts to empower the communities.

The Chairman of the ABSU stated that the program (1 May) would bring leaders, citizens and students together to respect their life, principles and permanent influences.
