Apple pencil with ‘trackball’ tip, attracting on any surface described in patent document

The Apple Pencil Pro was unveiled in May 2024 with a custom haptic reaction, a ‘squeeze’ function and an underlying gyroscopa. It is currently the flagship stylus available to customers who want to use a writing accessory with their iPad. Apple’s stylus requires a touch sensitive surface for current input, but it may not be a requirement in the future. The company may eventually offer an apple pencil with a trackball tip and optical sensor that will allow users to make materials on any surface, without touchscreen. The US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has provided a patent for a apple pencil to the tech veteran that uses several techniques to offer the same functionality.

Apple Pencil Indicates Patent Technology that enables to write without a touchscreen

according to a Patent documentFirst Moldy By Patterly Apple, the Cupertino company may be working on a new apple pencil that can draw on any surface. Styles will use a trackball tip and two optical sensors that will enable the Apple pencil to make materials on several surfaces from the rumor, without a touchscreen requirement.

The patent shows that optical sensors that are likely to use Apple may be either an optical flow sensor and/or laser specal flow sensor. The patent design suggests that the optical sensor will be placed above the trackball tip. To map the movement of the surface, it will detect the spatial-levilous image glitter variation, according to the document.

The optical flow sensors can capture the environment image to detect the reflected light from the surface on which a user is drawing, the patent document is cited as an example. It further stated that the laser speckle flow sensor could potentially detect a specal pattern emanating from the consistent lights to estimate the speed of the input device or device, which does not have a touch sensitive screen.

Patent documents have also shown that optical sensors can be used to produce materials or draw on a temporary input device, such as tabletop or a wall. Additionally, Apple input may use optical sensors to detect surface characteristics, including the state, orientation and motion of the device.

If Apple decides to move forward with the development of its patent stylus design, it may probably be an upgrade from the current Apple Pencil Pro. For reference, the US-based tech veteran launched the Apple Pencil Pro in 2024 with support for Custom Hyptic Feedback, Squeez Function, Gyroscope and Find My Technology.
