According to research firm IDC data, Apple’s smartphone shipments in China were reduced to nine percent in the first quarter a year ago and was the only major manufacturer.
Apple, which ranks fifth in the China’s smartphone market, dropped the shipment to 9.8 million phones, giving it a market share of 13.7 percent below 17.4 percent in the last quarter.
This was Apple’s seventh straight quarterly decline.
In contrast, market leader Xiaomi noticed that its shipment increased by 40 percent to 13.3 million while industry-wide shipments increased by 3.3 percent.
IDC analyst Wong Wong said Apple’s premium pricing structure has stopped the US company from capitalizing the new government subsidy launched in January that promoted an increase in the first quarter.
The government subsidy for smartphones and some other consumer electronics returns 15 percent products with sticker value under CNY 6,000 ($ 820 or about Rs 70,017).
