Assam to withdraw foreign tribunal cases against indigenous coach-rajbongshi community

In an unprecedented step, the Assam government has decided to withdraw cases against members of the coach-Rajbongshi community that are pending in foreigners of foreigners. At least 28,000 people are standing for benefits from this step.

The Assam government will also consider removing the tag “D Voter (Suspected Voter)” against his name in the lists of voters.

The decision was taken in the state cabinet meeting today.

After the meeting, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told reporters that 28,000 cases are pending in foreigners across the state.

Many of these include people whose surnames are usually found among the coach-rajbongshi community.

These individuals had to fight a legal battle to prove their Indian citizenship, in some cases for years.

The state government has planned to remove the D-Voter tag from the affected people, Mr. Sarma said.

Dearness allowance increase

The Assam government approved a 2 percent increase in dearness allowance (DA) for state government employees and pensioners. The outstanding arrears for April and May will be disposed of accordingly.

To strengthen the monitoring of the embankment, the state government will establish a force that will include young people, which will include 12–15 volunteers in each unit. The state government will equip them with the necessary flood fighting materials including Jio bags, tartlights, raincoats and gumboots.

Volunteers will oversee the embankments spread from April to October 8 to 12 km. At the successful conclusion of his service, the Chief Minister will provide him a certificate.
