There was a sadness on Sunday morning in Sanwata village of Jaisalmer. Villagers noticed that a child camel got stuck in a water tank, while her mother was helplessly standing at some distance.
It is said that the camel has tilted its head into an open tank in an attempt to quench its thirst. The camel allegedly slipped his head out of the water tank. As a result, he could not be able to maintain balance and fell right in the middle of the tank and got stuck.
According to the villagers, when they saw the female camel, her body was trembling and there were signs of tears in her eyes.
The incident is said to be on last Saturday.
Wildlife lover Sumer Singh said that the state animal lost his life in search of water.
Karanram, a resident of Sanvata village, said that there are 10-15 underground tanks in this area, but they all run drought.
Another resident Nepal Singh expressed sadness on the death of a state animal that can easily survive without water for a week. Mr. Singh urged the government to ensure the availability of water for animals.
The villagers called for the administration to close such open tanks as soon as possible to avoid such accidents in future. However, Assistant Engineer Gopal Singh Meena said that the tank in which the child camel got stuck was made privately and the government has no control over it.
“All officers are directed to ensure adequate water availability in the trough,” Mr. Meena told NDTV.
