A 30 -year -old badminton coach has been arrested for allegedly raping a 16 -year -old student in Bengaluru. Police said the incident came to light when the teenager’s grandmother discovered a pornographic photo of the rape-sir on her phone.
The survivor, after completing his class 10 exams, was going to meet his grandmother. According to the police, he sent a clear image of his own to the coach from his grandmother’s phone. Grandma discovered the image and alerted the parents of the teenager. When her mother was faced, the girl revealed that the coach was privately engaged with her under the guise of providing additional training sessions.
The coach alone in Bengaluru allegedly took the girl to her residence on several occasions, during which she sexually assaulted and warned her against complaining to anyone. Distrient from his daughter’s account, the parents of the teenager approached the police, which led to the arrest of the man.
A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, and the police is finding out whether the provisions of protection of children are applied to the sexual offenses (POCSO) Act, given the age of the girl. The coach has allegedly accepted his actions during preliminary inquiry by the police.
According to data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), crime against minors in India has been a frequent issue, which has reported more than 47,000 cases under the POCSO Act in 2022 alone.
The sports center where the trained girl has not yet issued an official statement, but the parents of other trainees are allegedly demanding a review of coaching staff and security protocols.
