New Delhi:
A married couple in Bangalore have filed a police complaint, alleging that their jewelery was priced at around Rs 30 lakh and Rs 30,000 in cash at the Delhi International Airport with their check-in baggage.
The alleged incident took place on the morning of 26 April at Terminal -1 of Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. The couple claimed that they disappeared precious goods after checking their bags in Bengaluru.
“Around 29-30 tolls worth Rs 30 lakh were stolen from our check-in baggage,” complainant Bhagirath Singh Rajpurohit told PTI.
He said that an FIR has been lodged in this case at the Delhi Police Station located at the airport.
A banker, Rajpurohit, said that he and his wife had gone to his home state of Rajasthan to attend a wedding on 14 April and was returning to Bengaluru via Delhi.
Rajpurohit said, “Jewelry was in a steel box placed in a trolley suitcase. There were three pouches in the same bag also had a total of Rs 30,000. But when we landed in Bangalore and reached home, we were found that all these were not valuables,” Rajpurohit said.
A police officer said that they were investigating CCTV footage from the airport.
“Many teams have been formed to investigate the case,” the official said.
According to the complaint, the couple claimed that the trolley bag, which had a small physical lock on a number lock and the zip chain, had a cut mark inside a fold.
Rajpurohit said that both the number lock and physical lock were intact.
The jewelery had gold earrings, bangles, anklets and an armlet, the couple claimed. A bank passbook and Aadhaar card were also missing.
Rajpurohit said that he suspects that it is the handiwork of the employees.
On April 26, the goods were checked with the airline at around 7.20 am and the flight left at 11.30 am. It landed in Bangalore around 2 pm, he said.
He said, “All this was with my wife. They were built at his ancestral place. We request police and airport officials to soon catch the criminals and help us in bringing back our precious goods,” he said.
Rajpurohit said that he has also informed the police that a gold chain belonging to his father, which had taken a separate flight from Delhi to Diabroor on the same day, but was stolen in a similar way after half an hour of his flight.
