Guwahati:
The Bharatiya Janata Party -led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has won a widespread victory in the 2025 Assam Panchayat elections, strengthening its political dominance in the state.
In a decisive show of strength, Alliance secured 300 out of 376 Zilla Parishad seats, capturing more than 76 percent of the vote share.
This landslide victory not only reflects the support of the alliance at the broad ground level, but also underlines the increasing confidence of voters in its governance model.
The ruling coalition also performed impressively in the regional panchayat elections, winning 1,436 out of 2,192 seats across the state.
With adequate vote share of 66 percent of these local bodies, the NDA has demonstrated its strong legs at village and block levels.
This strong performance is an important milestone for the BJP and its allies, especially in the run-up for the 2026 state assembly elections.
Reacting to the panchayat poll results, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took the social media platform X for expressing gratitude to the people of the state.
He credited the victory to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and highlighted the support of the NDA’s welfare-oriented rule.
CM Sarma thanked BJP leaders JP Nadda, Amit Shah and BL Santosh for their support during the campaign.
He also emphasized that this demonstration represents adequate reforms in the 2018 state panchayat elections.
The vote share has increased by 25 percent as compared to the previous election, indicating a strong supporter-disadvantage.
CM Sarma said, “These results come a year after our remarkable performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and just one year before the 2026 assembly elections,” CM Sarma said, “He said the panchayat polls as a powerful speed-building for the BJP in the state.”
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated the people of Assam for this victory.
In an X post, Amit Shah wrote, “NDA thanks to the people of Assam for a historic victory in the Panchayat Election 2025. For his dedicated efforts to take the door-to-door message of development.
