New Delhi:
In the alleged money laundering case related to the National Herald newspaper, a fresh political storm broke after the name of Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi’s Enforcement Directorate. While the BJP insisted that the law is taking its curriculum, Congress leaders have accused the Narendra Modi government of “political vendetta”.
Addressing the media this morning, BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad alleged that the Congress “corporate conspiracy” to ensure that the property should come into the hands of the Gandhi family.
The National Herald stopped the publication in 2008. The Congress then gave Rs 90 crore to the newspaper publisher, Associated Journal Limited (AJL). Mr. Prasad said that a political party cannot give money to a private body. AJL later said that it could not repay the loan. Later, a company called Young India Limited (Yil), which has 38 percent shares every 38 percent of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, acquired almost all AJL shares and gained control over its properties in many cities. “This yil was a non-profit. Nobody knows what the charitable work they have done. AJL was paid Rs 50 lakhs and the loan was written,” he said.
Mr. Prasad said that the Gandhi family “is not equal in commerce”. “This is the Gandhi model of development,” he said.
The BJP leader also mentioned the allegations against Robert Vadra, husband of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. “Another member buys land for Rs 3 crore and sells it for 58 crores. The country should learn this Gandhi model of development.”
Mr. Prasad said that he wants to ask Gandhi whether the law should not take his curriculum “. “Should everyone be silent if you have wrongly occupied thousands of crores of property?” He asked. He also said that Gandhi did not get any relief from the High Court and the Supreme Court after challenging the case.
Mr. Prasad also said that the National Herald newspaper established in 1938 could not run despite the protection and support of the Congress. “After independence, this newspaper was to be used as at least at least a proper newspaper and more as a platform to collect advertisements and ensure large assets by government cooperation,” he said.
He said that he alleged a newspaper installed during the freedom struggle “Furious in the practice of a penny for the Congress”.
The Congress has returned to the allegations and today has staged a large number of nationwide protests.
Senior party leader Pawan Kirra said that before independence, British National Herald used to hate, Gandhi family and Congress and now the RSS has replaced him.
He said, “The money laundering case on-for-profit company, where no funds were exchanged and no property was transferred, reflects the fear of Narendra Modi,” he said.
Congress leader Sachin Pilot said that the matter is politically motivated. “We rely on the justice system. We will fight it legally and do justice. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi have been targeted to suppress the voice of the opposition. The Modi government is no evidence. They just want to tarnish the image of the opposition,” he said.
