Officials said an aircraft of a private airline was taken to the Gulf of separation at Kolkata airport on Tuesday afternoon when a passenger was suspected to be carrying a bomb.
The airline’s security officer told that he had a bomb when the passenger was detained, when the Authority (AAI) officer of an airport in India said.
The 26-year-old passenger traveled from Imphal to Mumbai with a stopover in Kolkata, commented during the step ladder point check, a secondary-level security process under which airline staff frisk passengers and their hand luggage, just before boarding, said.
He said, “The passenger’s claim was declared specific, safety was given beef, and the standard operation process (SOP) was implemented,” he said.
The passenger arrived at Kolkata by an IndiGo flight and was about to take another flight from the same airline to Mumbai.
The official said that out of a total of 186 passengers, who were about to fly from Kolkata to Mumbai, 179 had already boarded.
He said the flight was to depart for Mumbai at 1.30 pm, but the aircraft was evacuated and was taken to the Gulf of separation for a thorough investigation.
In a statement, the airline said, “IndiGo Flight 6E 5227, working from Kolkata to Mumbai, received a bomb threat before departure. According to the security protocol, the aircraft was transferred to a separation bay at Kolkata Airport.
All necessary investigations were conducted, and the standard operational procedures were followed. “Security has been strengthened at all airports in the country after the India-Pakistan military conflict.
