Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Wednesday that the Center’s decision to include caste-based data in the upcoming National Census is “unprecedented” and in the interest of 140 crore citizens, in the interest of 140 crore citizens.
Shri Adityanath said that the initiative will recognize the underprivileged, backward and neglected classes and will ensure their fair participation in government schemes.
His comment, in a position on X in Hindi, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the Central Government has decided to include caste calculations in the upcoming census practice in a “transparent” manner.
The final nationwide census was completed in 2011 and the next Decadal began in April 1, 2020, but the Kovid epidemic delayed.
“CCPA’s decision under the leadership of Honorable Prime Minister Shri @Narendramodi Ji is unprecedented and welcome to include caste census in the upcoming census in the overall interest of 140 million countrymen. It is unprecedented and welcome.
He said, “Heartfelt gratitude to the respected Prime Minister, under whose leadership the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government has taken this historic decision to convert social justice and data-based good governance into reality.”

Addressing the first reporters in the day, Shri Vaishnav said that caste census will empower the marginalized sections and help them to become self -sufficient. “It shows that our government is committed to the values and interests of our society and the country, such as in the past when our government introduced 10 percent reservation for the economically weaker sections of the society without causing tension in any part of the society,” he said.
He also said that census comes under the purview of the center, but in a clear context of some states – Karnataka, Telangana and Bihar – has calculated caste in the name of surveys for “political reasons”.
Later in a post on X, he said: “Ensuring social justice, the thoughtful Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a historic step by approving the caste census at the Union Cabinet meeting today,” the minister said on X on X on X.
However, opposition parties said that this is a win for their long-standing demand and demanded implementation from time to time. He claimed that the ruling BJP at the Center was forced to “bow” for a majority will and demanded that the Center now works towards increasing reservation.
