After receiving a report from the three-member panel, in view of the allegations of a huge stack of burnt cash found in a storeroom associated with Justice Yashwant Verma’s bungalow, India has written to the President and the Prime Minister and the action has been initiated to remove it, the sources said.
In a statement on Thursday, the Supreme Court said, “The Chief Justice of India has written to honor the President of India, in the context of the in-house process and the Prime Minister of India along with the report of the 3-member committee is written in association with 03.05.2025 with a letter/response received from Mr. Justice Yashwant Verma 06.05.2025.”
While the details of the panel report are not yet known, sources said that Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna has recommended that a proposal be introduced to remove Nyaya Verma.
After the fire call on 14 March, a large pile of cash was allegedly recovered from a storeroom connected to Justice Verma’s house in Delhi, which was Holi. The judge had said that the storeroom was used by many people and did not know about keeping any cash there.
Justice Sheel Nagu, Chief Justice of the High Court of Punjab and a three -member committee of Haryana, Justice GS Sandalia, High Court Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh and a three -member committee of Karnataka High Court Judge Anu Shivraman was then formed to investigate the allegations against Justice Verma.
The panel submitted its report to Chief Justice Khanna on Sunday, which has now been sent to President Dupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the reply of Justice Verma.
