New Delhi:

A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Constable, whose wife was sent to Pakistan and was relieved by the last-mortar from the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, has now been dismissed by paramilitary forces to hide their marriage from Pakistani National.

In a statement, CRPF stated that 41 battalion constable Munir Ahmed has been rejected from service to “hide his marriage to a Pakistani national and deliberately” to harass her beyond the validity of her visa.

CRPF said, “Their actions were found to be harmful to service conduct and national security.”

Last week, after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, in which 26 people were killed, India had canceled visas for most Pakistani citizens and asked them to leave the country within a specified period.

Mr. Ahmed’s wife, Minal Khan, who belongs to Pakistan, received orders for exile and was sent to the Attari-Vagah border on getting relief from the High Court. On 29 April, the court allowed Ms. Khan to stay in India for 10 days.

CRPF sources said that Mr. Ahmed, who is from Jammu and joined the force in 2017, wrote a letter and informed his department that he had intended to marry a woman from Pakistan, but proceeded without waiting for official approval. The couple got married on a video call on 24 May last year.

Sources said that Ms. Khan came to India on a tourist visa and started living with Mr. Ahmed. Her visa ended on March 22, but she continues to live with her.

India’s new measures

In new measures in response to the Pahgam attack, India banned imports on Saturday and also banned the docking of ships from the country at all Indian ports of mail and parcels from Pakistan.

After the Pulwama attack in 2019, India had imposed 200% duty on all goods imported from Pakistan, including fresh fruits, petroleum products, and cement. The Vaga-Atari crossing has also been closed, which has stopped trade with Pakistan.

In 2021–22 and 2022-23, India exported goods of $ 513.82 million and $ 627.1 million to Pakistan and imported to the tune of $ 2.54 million and $ 20.11 million, which was accounting for a very small percentage of its total trade. India’s exports to Pakistan between April 2024 and January this year were $ 447.65 million, while imports were only $ 0.42 million.
