Delhi government school to start pre-commercial education program

The Directorate of Education of Delhi has announced, in accordance with the National Education Policy, a pre-business education program will be introduced for students of class 6 to 8 in government schools in Delhi in the year 2025-26.

According to a circular issued by the DOE’s Vocational Education Branch, ‘Kaushal Bodh’ will be introduced as a separate subject for class 6 in the first phase, followed by classes 7 and 8 in later years.

The objective of this initiative is to equip students with life skills and business awareness required to prepare students for real -world challenges and opportunities.

The curriculum has been aligned with the National course structure for school education (NCF-SE) 2023 and focus on three broad categories of work — working with life forms, working with machines and materials, and working in human services. Students are expected to complete three projects each year, one of the three, it has been said.

The program encourages hands to learn through activities such as organic farming, earthen pots, carpentry, cooking with millet, embroidery and basic electrical functions. Teachers will guide students safely to complete tasks, cooperate in groups and apply their learning in practical settings.

Each student will be assessed based on written tests, oral presentations, activity books, portfolio and teacher comments, for these activities a total of 110 hours per annum, reading the circular.

The department directed the heads of schools to oversee project execution, support teacher training and ensure integration of vocational education in school environment. Regular teachers will be responsible for guiding students in skill-based tasks, convenience of assessment and connecting classes with real-world applications.

The Education Department will organize ‘Kaushal Melus’ to demonstrate student projects and encourage participation in demonstrations under expert supervision.

It states that this vocational education will increase students’ problems to solve the abilities, promote teamwork, and develop basic skills for future business routes.
