Do you use drinking water to wash the vehicle? You will be fined in this city

Chandigarh:

If you are washing your car with a hospy or allowing your tank overflow in Chandigarh, it can only spend you more than water. The Municipal Corporation in the city has warned a public notice against wasting water. The civil body said that wasting water would invite a fine of Rs 5,788, and may also lose their water connections without any notice.

According to the notice, the residents are urged to prevent excessive lawn water and overflow water from overhead or underground tanks.

This order also targets issues such as water meter chambers, desert coolers and leakage from inappropriate plumbing setup that lead to bibb tap deficiency.

These restrictions are effective till 30 June.

Wrote wastage activities

  • Washing vehicles and courtyards etc.
  • Lawn water.
  • Waste or misuse of water for some other reason.
  • Overhead/overflow from underground water tank.
  • Leak from water meter chamber.
  • Leak and overflow from Desert Cooler.
  • Waste of water due to non-prudence of bib tap.
  • Installation and use of booster pumps directly on the water supply line.

What happens if you are caught

  • A fine of Rs 5,788 will be directly added to your water bill.
  • Hospipes, booster pumps, or any equipment used for water wastage will be confiscated.
  • If you repeat, the water connection will be disconnected without any other opportunity, in which there will be no additional notice.

With the increase in water demand and summer only heating, the civic body is carrying forward its protection efforts.

What can you do

  • Fix the leaks around the house.
  • Install proper taps and valves.
  • Avoid using flowing water for cleaning purposes.
  • Do not install booster pumps – they are illegal and also disrupt supply to others.

Last year, the Municipal Corporation fined Rs 5,512 for similar violations.

“Due to the increasing demand for drinking water during the summer season, MC has decided to wash the lawn water, wash the courtyard and wash vehicles during the hours of morning water supply from 7 April to 30 June. With a fine of water and misuse, the provisions of water supply will invite a fine as per the provisions of water supply according to the provisions of water supply.”
