The song was adopted as a state song on February 19, 2023, with the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

“Maharashtra song ‘Garja Maharashtra Maja’ should be sung in all medium schools after the national anthem,” Mr. Bhus told reporters.

One of the iconic songs in Marathi, ‘Jai Jai Maharashtra Maja, Garja Maharashtra Maja’, which means ‘glory of Maharashtra’, was written by Raja Badhe and sung by Balladar Krishnaro Sebal, which is popular as Shah Sable.
