As Energy labeling regulation introduced in the market, smartphones, tablets and other electronic devices will require a European product registry for energy labeling (EPLEL), which is usually known as an energy label, showing its energy class and battery patience for each individual unit in the box. This applies to goods placed in the market starting from June 20, 2025 and focuses on measures to expand the lifetime of a product.

This regulation applies to cordless phone that uses tablets with a landline telecom network, cellular or satellite network with the facility of phone without internet access or third party app, and screen size between 7 inch and 17.4 inch.

Interestingly, mobile phones and tablets with a flexible main screen are completely free from this regulation. The equipment will need to display information about their energy efficiency, battery longevity, dust and water resistance rating and resistance to casual drops. In addition, the regulation mentions that a product placed in the European Union market will also require a repair score.

According to the Commission, the purpose of this regulation is to help consumers to make more informed and sustainable options when purchasing electronic devices and encourages sustainable consumption. If the OEM upgrade any changes such as OS upgrade, the device will require re -test and energy label amendment, if a change is seen in the values.

As part of eco-design requirements, equipment will also be required to follow the following criteria:
