The distinguished indigenous Thaud tribe in Assam used to welcome State Cabinet Minister Ukhao Gura Brahma as a special guest during its first state-level Hun-Thhadau cultural festival ceremony, when Tadori tribes threatened by cookie terrorists against organizing the festival.
The organizers of the festival said in a statement, “The festival celebrated the cultural identity, heritage and collective aspirations of the Thadu community in Assam and the broad Northeast region.”

The organizers said, “Assam State Han-Thadou Cultural Festival 2025 proved to be a historical festival of indigenous flexibility, cultural pride and peaceful co-existence, confirming the role of the Thadau community in the creation of a more inclusive and harmonious future,” the organizers said.
Apart from the Thadau cultural shows, various communities of Assam participated in the event with their colorful cultural shows, including Bihu/Assamia, Bodo, Dimasa, and Gorkha/Nepali, which is actually a symbol of unity in diversity.
A souvenir book – Sinkhap: Assam 1.0 – was released by Manipur MLA Konthaujam Govindas, and dedicated by Reverend Hanging.

There were also cultural performances in the morning, including a Thaudu dance by the Tadou Students Association (TSA) Guwahati, and an Assamese Bihu dance by the Boramthuri Bihu Group.
Dr. M. The afternoon session run by Paokip Hawkip focused on the discussions that fulfill the indigenous identity and development. Dr. Hawkip Thaudu is the president of human rights advocacy.
Michael Lamzathang Hawkip, head of TSA-Gauchue, gave a keynote speaker on the uniqueness of the Thadau tribe in Assam in relation to Manipur and other parts of the Northeast. He said that the state level was organized with the objective of promoting the uniqueness of Thaud tribe, promoting traditional cultural heritage and promoting peaceful co-existence with all communities of the state.

The leaders said that the Tudu tribe in Assam may help to promote peaceful co -existence among various communities in Manipur by reaching Tata in the neighboring state. Thaudu people also hope that the MLAs of Manipur have a huge impact for the representatives of the people and they will work honestly for the restoration of peace.
“It is also worth noting that the message of peaceful co -existence is needed to be operated through all possible channels. We believe that people from Assam and Thadu community can help spread the message of peace in Manipur,” Kontujam Govindas said.
The organizers said that a Gorkha cultural dance by the dispute college Gorkha unit and a music performance by Thangminsam added color to the session.

Chongboi Hawkip, the convenor of the Thaudu Community International (TCI) and a member of the Chartered Institute of Horticulture of Britain, presented strategies to channels the festival towards sustainable development practices, while social activist Jalun Hawkip from Australia gave a emotional reflection on peace, justice and non-selection.
The Thaud tribe also presented a six-point memorandum to the chief guest Mr. Brahma, requesting to take steps to protect the Thaudu tribe, identity and culture in Assam.

Shri Brahma is the Minister of State for Handloom, Textile and Serculture, Soil Protection and Welfare of Bodoland Department.
Memorandum signed by the leaders of Thadau Inpi Dima Hasao, and Thadau Inpi Karbi Anglong sought recognition of the Thadu in the autonomous hill districts of Dima Hasao and Karby Anglong.

It also asked to include Thadu language in Nissha Setu academic website under Assam Education Department. Other major requests include adequate political representation in the Harangjao (Durbin) constituency under the NC Hills Autonomous Council, and a formal recognition of Thadu tribe as a separate and independent mountain tribe in the autonomous district of Assam.

The organizers stated that the closing session was marked by dynamic cultural exchange and symbolic demonstrations, including a traditional Dimasa dance, a music number by Metei artist Sori and a cultural performance by the Bodo Literary Society.
MLA L Susindro Yaima Meitei and a joint performance by Sori Senjam, symbol of unity through art, was one of the main attractions.

The organizers stated that the evening ended with a beedication by Tradu Christian Fellowship Guwahati (TCFG) secretary Lunaminsang Sitalho and Thadau tribe by a traditional Lakamol dance by Tradau tribe, leading to the event to the event for a dignified and joyful close.

On March 28, with less than a week from the event, the Thadau Civil Society groups and leaders complained to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Assam Police on alleged threats by cookie militants against celebrating Hun-Thadu cultural celebrations.
