Srinagar:
The National Conference led by Omar Abdullah passed two resolutions today, one urged the Center to honor the mandate of the people in Jammu and Kashmir and condemned the passage of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in another Parliament.
The resolutions followed the ruling national conference and a two -hour legislative party meeting of its colleagues. They come amid a quarrel between Omar Abdullah Sarkar and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s office. The National Conference has said that it wants to run the government with “love and respect” and its silence should not be considered as its “weakness”. It has also urged the BJP -led central government to “not push them on the wall”.
There is a transfer of 48 Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Services (JKAS) officers on the instructions of Lieutenant Governor behind the first major conflict between the Union Government and Raj Bhavan. According to sources, the elected government feels that this order is the mandate and trample of the people on the rights of the Omar Abdullah government.
The leader of a national conference said, “It cannot be a business as usual. We wanted a cordial relationship with Raj Bhavan and the Center, but they have chosen to disrespect the mandate. It is unacceptable.”
The leader of a national conference told the media that Omar Abdullah, Farooq Abdullah and the National Conference MLAs and his associates attended the meeting. “We passed two major proposals. One Vaqf (Amendment) rejects the bill strongly. We believe that it is against Muslims. The second resolution is that the mandate of the people of Jammu and Kashmir should be respected. We have requested the government to respect the mandate. It should not be seen as our weakness.
The Sangh has erupted a few days before the Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir. Mr. Shah is scheduled to reach Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday for a three -day visit to review the security situation between spikes in terrorist activities in Jammu.
The Chief Minister has allegedly written to the Home Minister, expressing his displeasure over the transfer orders of Raj Bhavan and indicating that it falls within the domain of the government elected under the 2019 Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act.
The Act authorizes the Lieutenant Governor to transfer IAS officers and control law and order in the union sector. All other departments including transfer of JKAS officers come under the jurisdiction of the elected government.
According to sources, because he is in charge of law and order, the Lieutenant Governor issued an order to transfer the revenue officers as they also perform the duties of magistrates.
The Omar Abdullah government came to power after winning the assembly elections in October last year. The government and Raj Bhavan have been closed in a quarrel ever since due to overlapping powers. Mr. Abdullah has insisted that he wants a cordial relationship with the Center, but the recent developments have harassed him.
The delay in the restoration of the state of Jammu and Kashmir has also been rejected in the government, which was lost in 2019 to cancel its special situation. The Center had allegedly assured Mr. Abdullah that consultation on the restoration of the state would soon begin after the assembly elections in Maharashtra. But according to the National Conference, the Center has refused to give any time -line for these dialogues.
