New Delhi, May 14: As per an official order issued by the Government of India, former Defense Secretary Ajay Kumar has been appointed as the Chairman of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). His appointment has been approved by President Draupadi Murmu.

From the 1985 batch, a retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Kerala cadre, Kumar, successfully succeeded former Union Health Secretary and 1983 batch IAS officer Preeti Sudan, under whose tenure the term as UPSC Chairperson ended on 29 April. He was appointed on 1 August 2025.

The order issued by the Ministry of Union personnel said, “The President has appointed Dr. Ajay Kumar as the Chairman, Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) under Article 316 (1) of the Constitution of India.”
