Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a hint to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Sunday amid a debate on three language policy.
Addressing a public meeting in Rameswaram after inaugurating the new Pambon railway bridge, the Prime Minister commented that although he regularly receives letters from Tamil Nadu leaders, none of them are signed in Tamil.
PM Modi said, “Sometimes, I am surprised when I receive letters from some Tamil Nadu leaders – none of them are signed in Tamil. If we really proud Tamil, I will request everyone to sign their names in Tamil at least,” PM Modi said, insisted on the importance of hugging and promoting someone’s native language.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the efforts of the Central Government in promoting Tamil language and culture globally.
He said, “We are constantly working to ensure that Tamil language and Tamil heritage reach every corner of the world.”
Amidst a prolonged war of words between the DMK -led Tamil Nadu government and the Center, the state accused the BJP government of imposing Hindi and trying to reduce the Tamil language and culture.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi inaugurated the new Pamban railway bridge in Rameswaram located in Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu.
The incident marked an important milestone in the development of India’s infrastructure.
The Prime Minister operated the vertical lift span of the bridge to allow to pass under a Coast Guard ship from a distance – a significant achievement in indigenous engineering.
The new Pamban Bridge is India’s first vertical lift Railway Sea Bridge, which symbolizes a jump in modern railway infrastructure.
During this program, PM Modi also flagged off a new train service between Rameswaram and Taramaram in Chennai, which aims to improve regional connectivity and reduce travel for passengers and pilgrims.
Although Chief Minister MK Stalin was absent due to prior busyness in Nilgiris, the incident saw the participation of many dignitaries.
