Panaji:
Following the tragic death of six devotees in a stampede, the Goa Health Department has announced the phase-wise implementation of the “Code Red” system in hospitals to ensure a rapid response to emergency conditions.
State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said on Sunday that the Code Red Protocol will be implemented in Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and later district hospitals and super specialty hospitals.
After visiting the injured devotees in GMCH, Mr. Rane said that two to three patients are in critical condition. While two of them have given positive response to treatment, close monitoring is required.
During the annual Sri Lerivi Devi Temple Festival in Shiragao village in North Goa, six devotees were killed and around 70 injured in a stampede that took place in the early hours of Saturday.
Mr. Rain said that “Code Red” is an internationally established emergency response protocol.
He said, “Code Red Protocol gets active automatically during medical emergency conditions in hospitals. You do not need to wait to respond to any department or person. Under this system, multi-disciplinary doctors are immediately engaged to ensure quick and necessary decisions,” he said.
The Health Minister further stated that the system will be implemented in three phases starting with GMCH.
He increased the confidence in code red mechanism to deal with emergency situations more effectively.
Mr. Ren said that he visited the injured devotees and discussed the treatment protocol along with the treatment of doctors.
He said, “I told the doctors that the government will immediately work on any demand to confuse experts from any part of the country for the treatment of injured persons or backup systems.”
